Moscow Delight by Maida Vale: the story behind the CD
| Moscow Delight
was intended as a four track demo. Studio
Moskou (Utrecht) was booked for the weekend of December 15th and 16th
2001 to make recordings of "Madhouse passion", "Killer mouse", "Fransje"
and "Purple velvet underwear". In an attempt to distract ourselves from
some of the complex grooves of these songs we played a highly energetic
version of "Got to get". Fortunately the tape was running and this provided
us with a good backing track of this song that otherwise would not have
been recorded.
The mixdown was done in several sessions from February to August 2002 in Nick Mulder's and Niels' home studio's. Backing vocals were added during these sessions. A special athmosphere to the track "Moscow delight" was added by editing the sound as it was received by a desert radio (the crackling noises are not due to your audio equipment !). Much care, devotion and energy was put into the mix and this can be heard in every single note ! We were astonished by the sound quality of this demo recording and decided to make it an official release on our own Anthem Records label. The CD title is an homage to the studio where the recordings took place, and its owner Silvia Vermeulen. The label on the CD is the map of the Moscow Underground. We thank Silvia Vermeulen and Nick Mulder without whom etc. etc. |
