Teddy H. Kristiansen (1964) was born in Denmark, Europe. He's what you call a self-taught artist
even though he attended Ulrik Hoff's School of Drawing and Painting for half a year. His
artistical influences can be found - among others - in the works of Dutch painter Vincent van
Gogh and Norwegian painter Edvard Munch.
In 1990, his first graphic novel was published, Superman and the tale of five cities
(Superman og fredsbomben). It was the first Superman story drawn outside of the USA with the
permission of DC. The story was written by Niels Søndergaard, who has been the translator
of the Superman comicbook in Denmark for many years. The story starts in Amsterdam and goes, via
Helsinki and Copenhagen, to Oslo and finally culminates in Stockholm.
In 1992, together with Peter Snejbjerg, he contributed a story to Henning Kure's Tarzan
project for Malibu Comics. The story earned them a Eisner Award nomination in 1993. This work
brought the young Danish artists to the attention of the Americans.
Kristiansen is best known for his work on the miniseries Grendel: Four Devils, One Hell
written by James Robinson, The Sandman Midnight Theatre, written by Neil Gaiman and Matt
Wagner. In this work, he primarily used the coloring brush and the color range of brown, blue
and dark shades in the presentation of a psychological thriller set in New York and London in
1939.
In 1996 he did a 8 page black and white Batman story with Dennis O'Neil and started on House
of Secrets with Steve Seagle, his first ongoing monthly comicbook. House of Secrets was
unfortunately cancelled with #25.
