Joe Quesada (1962) was born in New York City and raised in Jackson Heights, Queens. He was educated at the New York School of Visual
Arts where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in illustration. His first published work as a penciller was an ad in Captain N:
The Game Master #3 (1990).
Before landing his first real pencilling job at DC Comics, where he started on a TSR licensed book called Spelljammer (1991), Quesada was a colorist for Valiant Comics. From there, he was given the opportunity to work on The Question Quarterly (1991-1992) series with the legendary Dennis O'Neil. After The Question Quarterly, Quesada did two very high profile mini-series for DC, The Ray (1992) with writer Jack C. Harris and Batman: Sword of Azrael (1992-1993) written by Dennis O'Neil. In 1993, Quesada had a short stint on Marvel's X-Factor with writer Peter David (and Scott Lobdell) before moving back to Valiant and doing Ninjak. In 1994, he teamed up with inker Jimmy Palmiotti and founded Event Comics. Their flagship character and title, Ash - chronicling the exploits of Ashley Quinn, who is both a firefighter and a super hero - was met with great reader response. Other Event Comics titles included Painkiller Jane, Kid Death & Fluffy and 22 Brides. In 1998, Marvel hired Event Comics to do books for them, and in September of that year, the Marvel Knights imprint was launched. Marvel Knights, was designed to allow the Event Comics team to breathe new life into second tier characters like Daredevil, Inhumans, Black Panther and The Punisher. Quesada got the chance to make a dream come true by illustrating the new Daredevil (1998-2001) series along side award winning film maker and screenwriter Kevin Smith and acclaimed writer-artist David Mack. In early 2000, he also had a short stint on Iron Man. In September 2000, Quesada became Marvel's Editor-in-Chief. He occasionally finds time to do covers and other small pencilling projects.
