02/13/05 - Five Minutes With J.G. Jones
|
|
Dynamic Forces recently posted a short interview with J.G. Jones in which he talks about his work on the Wanted
mini-series with writer Mark Millar.
Here's a small excerpt of the interview:
DF: How has the Wanted experience and working with Mark Millar changed you?
JG JONES: I'm too old to let some little upstart scamp like Millar change me. I tried to work with the same approach on
Wanted that I always use. Storytelling comes first. This was pretty easy with Mark. I didn't have to change much from his script
when I was drawing, because he gives the artist pretty much every thing he needs to work with. He has clear, concise storytelling,
which is something I like.

been redesigned and apparently look more Ultimates than Avengers.

|
|
Comic Book Recources posted the second in a two part interview with J.G. Jones, conducted
and written by contributing writer Bill Baker. In this part he talks among other things
about his first published work, his influences and why he doesn't commit to an ongoing series.
Here's a small excerpt of the interview:
Bill Baker: What do you look for in a project? What is it about a book that makes you
want to work on it? One of the things about much of your work is the fact that the books often
feature strong female leads.
J.G. Jones: Yeah. One reason I did MARVEL BOY - besides the fact that Grant Morrison
said he wanted me, "Huh? OK! Where do I sign? AND I get PAID!?" - I REALLY wanted to do a book
that wasn't a 'chick book', cause I'd been doing them for so long. And I didn't want to be just,
"That guy who did chick books."

I'm gonna work on a creator owned project that I've had in the works for a couple years, that
I've been sitting on. And ... keep my options open, talking to various people about what my next
project is gonna be. I think I'll catch my breath a little bit before I decide what I'm gonna do

04/03/00 - J.G. Jones Covers WildCats
|
|
J.G. Jones will be the new cover artist on WildCats after the departure of Travis Charest with
#12.
The decision to appoint J.G. Jones as the new cover artist - rather than the penciler of the
book, Sean Phillips - resulted in a discussion on the DC Message Boards. Here's what
writer Joe Casey had to say:
...
"I'll go on the record here on this mild cover debate... I think Sean should be doing the
covers. However, back before either Sean and I were on the book, the concept of getting J.G. to
do interiors on WILDCATS was being tossed around. Obviously, that never came to pass (I think
his work on Black Widow seemed so... Travis-like, that certain editors simply connected the dots
there), but WildStorm still wanted J.G. to do some work for them and this seemed like a good
way to get that working relationship started. I've seen the cover for #13, and I can safely say
that it justifies the decision.
However...
Sean and I have had some discussions about comic book graphic design (mainly about how generally
pathetic it is), and my goal is to get Sean doing covers as soon as possible. Hopefully, at the
same time, we can redesign the overall look of the book and turn it into something more people
would be proud to have tucked under their arm. This, also, was a topic of discussion when I was
down in San Diego."
