05/31/04 - Original Art
|
|
Once again, I'm posting some scans of my art portfolio here. This time I have two pieces of original art. The first one is a splash page
by Peter Snejbjerg. It's page #26 from Witchcraft #1 (1993). The second one is a cover illustration by Duncan Fegredo. It's
for a comic called Shade, the Changing Man. The earlier covers were fully painted, this is the first one of that series he penciled and
inked. The painted ones are great, but at the moment way out of my league.

06/15/03 - Fegredo speeds up?!
|
|
Recently Rich Johnston at Comic Book Resources' Lying in the Gutters column posted the
following interesting rumour:
"In an attempt to speed up the production of "Ultimate Adventures" issues, Duncan
Fegredo will only be pencilling the yet-to-be printed issues.

07/08/02 - Fegredo goes to the Ultimate!
|
|
Marvel is going to launch three new series in September - one written by Jemas, one edited and
handpicked by Joe Quesada, and a relaunched Captain Marvel by David and artist CrissCross.
Each will supposedly get six-issues to prove themselves, and the series with the highest sales
would continue on as ongoing series, with the "losers" ending after the 6th issue.
The series edited by Joe Quesada is called Ultimate Adventures. It's written by Ron Zimmerman
and drawn by Duncan Fegredo. The series introduces Hawk-Owl and Zippy -- and presents a
touching look at the world of the super hero side-kick.

07/02/02 - Bristol Comics Festival 2002 [UPDATE]
|
While I was in Bristol, I picked up some interesting news tidbits:
- Peter Snejbjerg will be working on a 96-page Batman story. He's hoping it will be a
HC.
- The Peter Parker: Spider-Man series will be cancelled with #50. Mark Buckingham says
he will be doing more Spider-Man in the future.
- The announced Zatanna series is not happening with Duncan Fegredo doing the art.
Instead he will be doing a Marvel Knights project.
Here are some more sketches I was lucky to get at the Bristol convention. Enjoy!:

12/20/01 - Duncan Fegredo Interview
|
|
In their August 2001 issue, Sequential Tart published an interview with Duncan
Fegredo. In the interview he talks about his past and future work.
Here's a excerpt of the interview:
Sequential Tart: What's your dream project?
Duncan Fegredo: I have absolutely no idea. The problem is I would love Matt Groening or
Paul Dini and Bruce Timm (for example) to call me up and say, "We absolutely need you on
Simpsons/Futurama/Batman etc.", but why would they? They can draw it themselves! I love
Hellboy, but I don't want to see me draw it, only Mike Mignola! Of course If Spielberg or Lucas
need my help, I'm there! I do see myself transitioning into films if the opportunity arises.
ST: Will we ever see you write a comic?
DF: Yes, and I'll draw/colour/design it too, with the help of my wife Diana. It's just a
matter of time...

12/20/01 - Duncan Fegredo to draw Zatanna series
|
|
As announced during the San Diego Comic Convention in July of this year, Paul Dini will write
a new ongoing Vertigo Zatanna series, with art by Duncan Fegredo.
He also reported they were talking to a bunch of different cover artists: Alex Ross
volunteered to do a cover or two, and Brian Bolland has been talked about as a possibility.
The series will have a dark humor/fantasy flavor and Dini wants to make it funny and sexy.

10/15/00 - Fegredo and Buckingham Contribute to Sandman Presents Special
|
|
The Sandman Presents line of character-focused titles will become more of a presence than
ever as they unify into an ongoing release of mini-series and special projects:
The Sandman Presents: The Deadboy Detectives, a mini-series by writer Ed Brubaker and
artists Bryan Talbot and Steve Leialoha, will begin the spring. The mini-series features The
Sandman characters Mad Hettie and Hob Gadling. The book is described by DC as "a Hardy
Boys-meets-Philip-Marlowe detective yarn that combines elements of Harry Potter with a
tongue-in-cheek hard-boiled style."
The Sandman Presents: The Thessaliad will be written by Bill Willingham and illustrated
by Shawn McManus. Thessaly (from The Sandman: A Game of You) is known for her ruthless yet
practical approach to magic. For the first time in history, the most powerful Thessalian witch
meets her match.
Some important questions are addressed in the 48-page one-shot The Sandman Presents:
Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About Dreams But Were Afraid to Ask, written by
Willingham with artwork by Kevin Nowlan, Mark Buckingham, Jason Little, Duncan Fegredo and
others. This book addresses several oft-asked questions regarding the nature of Dreams and The
Dreaming in a series of humorous vignettes featuring Nuala, Merv, Lucien, Goldie, Gregory, and
other inhabitants of the Dreaming.
Other projects in development feature such characters as The Corinthian and The Furies.

he gained the power to stretch! In July, writer Peter David (Captain Marvel) and artist Duncan

02/19/00 - Fegredo to go Before the 4 [UPDATE]
|
|
Michael Doran at Mania Magazine's Newsarama posted the following update concerning the
upcoming Before the 4 mini-series:
According to FF editor Bobbie Chase, the Fantastic Adventures of series of mini-series
spotlighting the individual members of the team before they gained superpowers has been
redubbed Before the 4. In addition to the previously announced Before the 4: Ben Grimm & Logan
(May - July), by Larry Hama, Kaare Andrews and Walden Wong, the creative team of Peter David
and Duncan Fegredo will take on Before the 4: Reed Richards (July-Sept), and Terry
Kavanagh & Charlie Adlard are slated for Before the 4: The Storms (Oct-Dec).
David replaces the writer originally signed for the Reed Ricards mini, Karl Kesel, who told
Mania's Newsarama that he had to back out - 'very regrettably' - over scheduling issues.
According to David, the series is following the original basic premise - a sort of Young
Indiana Jones-type adventure. "The basic concept at this point is that Reed is searching for an
object reputed to have miraculous healing powers, so that he can use to cure a brilliant
scientist," said the writer. "The problem is that the object can only be used one time...and a
hideously scarred and bandaged Victor Von Doom is looking to get his hands on it as well."

02/18/00 - Fegredo to go Before the 4
|
|
The pre-space flight (Fantastic Four #1) exploits of the FF will be the subject of a series of
consecutive mini-series starting off in May. The first mini-series will be The Fantastic
Adventures of Ben Grimm and Logan by Larry Hama, Kaare Andrews and Walden Wong.
The premise for this project - which is called Before the 4 - is that the FF were pretty
fantastic even before they got bombarded by cosmic rays.
The Ben Grimm and Logan limited-series will lead into the 3-issue mini-series The Fantastic
Adventures of Reed Richards, as writer Peter David and Duncan Fegredo tackle a sort of
globe-spanning, Young Indiana Jones-type adventure set in Reed's college days.
This will finally lead into the 3-part The Fantastic Adventures of the Storms limited-series -
by Terry Kavanagh and Charlie Adlard - set during siblings Sue and Johnny Storm's high school
days.
