This progessive-rock band has released 1 album: Children's Games, in 1994. Since then, Sean, Mark and Darren can be caught playing the occasional gig together in between their solo projects. Sean Filkins and Darren Newitt are also in a band called Lazy Jane, and perform material from the Lorien album at live shows. Currently there are plans to re-release the album, but these plans are in an early stage.
Sean and Darren, while touring with Lazy Jane, sell some merchandise of Lazy Jane at their gigs, and also a tape of Childrens' Games, with a bonus track. See more at Lazy Jane Merchandise
Lorien (whose name comes from Tolkien's 'Lord Of The Rings'), was formed
in June 1989 and comprised of a writing duo: Mark McLeod (keyboards) and
Darren Newitt (guitar), writing material reminiscent of bands such as
Yes, Rush, Marillion, Genesis and Pink Floyd.
In February 1993 the band advertised for a vocalist in Melody Maker.
After auditioning several vocalists, the result was Sean Filkins, the
former vocalist of Soma. They then recruited another ex-Soma member,
Phil Legende (drummer) who came highly recommended from Sean. The former
bass player was replaced by Geoff Curtis to complete the line-up.
Having finished recording their first album, "Children's Games",
Lorien signed a record deal with S.I. Records in Holland who released the
album on lst January 1994, catalogue no: Silly Insects OOS/SIMPly 44.
The band toured Europe in March/April of 1994 to promote the album.
I don't know what sort of music Soma played, but
here is a discription of that band.
