More about our kennel.

In 1997 we bought our first tervueren sheppard : Udine van het Smetenhof. She appeared to be a beautiful en very social bitch and according to several people with knowledge about dogs very good for breeding. In 1999 she had her first litter, of which we kept Ayla. In 2003 Rena has completed our herd.

We've chosen this breed, because the tervuerense is an intelligent, affectionate en beautiful dog, with a great will to please. Some people tell the tervuerense is detained or fearful, but with good attention for proper socialization this is not an issue, as everybody who knows our dogs can confirm.

Our knowledge and ability on the fields of health, beauty and especially behavior has grown a lot by doing, listening to other breeders and dog specialists and studying (in 2002 Marlies has passed the exam Kynological Knowledge part I and we keep on studying). That is why we can provide the new owners with proper advises, where necessary.

We've made it our goal to breed beautiful, healthy, sound and especially social tervueren. Breeding is a hobby, which we take very seriously. For all litters is asked permission of the "Fokkerij Toetsings Commissie" (Breeding Committee) of the "Nederlandse Vereniging voor Belgische Herders". We use a buying-contract as is proposed by the club (NVBH).

The pups grow up at home and there is a lot of attention for a proper socialization. Before the pups go to their new owners, they've had a lot of domestical experiences: they saw a lot of people (young and old); they've gotten used to domestical things (like radio, t.v., washing machine etc.). The pups come inside the livingroom from time to time, sometimes together, sometimes alone (without the support of the littermates) and get the possibility to play outside, where they can gather new impressions etc. etc. Thus the start for becoming a well-socialized dog is being made.

All new bosses get a lot of information about raising a pup and they can call whenever there are questions or just to chat about their dog. Thus there's grown a good contact with several dog-owners, without any obligations. Some of them also write about their "van de Ollandse Werf dog" in our geustbook.
