Rena hurt and recovering.
During the annual walk of the NVBH,
18 januari,
Rena and Ayla got lost, most likely because John and I didn't walk together
(because
someone needed help). The dogs probably went searching for me, as a sheppard is
supposed to do.
After about 3 hours of searching we
found them back.
Rena was hurt badly at one foot: all skin had disappeared (shearing injury). She stayed at the veterinarian clinic in Merelbeke (near Gent, Belgium) for three weeks. She got excellent treatment: first they took care that the wound didn't get infected, later they transplanted new skin from her body to her injured leg. At 9 februari she came back home.
Unfortunately her wound got infected, so we had to bring her back to Gent at friday 13 februari (!!). They removed her transplant on monday and kept her for two more weeks.
When we took her home we were instructed how to change the bandages every day. This we did for three more weeks. After this time she slowly had to learn to walk on her 4 legs again, which went vey well.
At this time we can say Rena made a wonderfull recovery and only a small scarf on her paw remind us of her "adventure". In July she will appear in the international dogshow in Uden!
We want to thank everybody who showed interest in her recovery, especially the whole staff of 'hospitalisatie en chirurgie' in the clinic in Merelbeke!! Dr. de Rooster, Dr. Risselada en Dr. Görtz: thank you very much for your excellent treatment en e-mails during and after her stay in Gent.
