The Mission Statement

The Mission Statement is the first of sixteen guidelines.
It seems to be a statement for a king or ruler.
Even for present leaders it would be quite a mission.

2.1

In the past the Yellow ancestor realized
the beginning and loved reliability.
In the beginning he made himself to a form
with four faces to all points of the compass,
gathered round a single heart.
From the centre he reached
to all the points of the compass,
three in front, three in the rear,
three at the left and three at the right side.
He made his stand and did set foot
on every group of three.
That is why he was able to become
the ancestor of the entire world.

2.3

I am the only one who rose his power
on an equal level with the Heaven,
After which I established kingship
and appointed the three counselors,
established the States
and formed the three Counselors of State.
I counted the days and established the months.
I calculated to let it agree
with the course of Sun and Moon.

I follow the earth
in her stateliness and abundance.
I look like Heaven
in his great clearness.

2.5

I stand in awe of the Heaven.
I am careful with the Earth.
I am treating the people as my next of kin.
I have abolished all for which I had no mission.
I hold on to what is empty and reliable.

2.7

My position is not ..
Would I be able to treat
my next of kin as next of kin
and to place the wise in front,
than I would, without neglecting anything
have achieved the summit.

The dots in the lines of the text means that one or more characters are missing or unreadable.
The numbers are added by me for editorial reasons. Gaps in the numbering mean that a the verse is not translated. In all cases that is because there were to much unreadable characters in the original text.
