![]() Antestor - The Defeat of Satan
The Antestor demo's are finally re-released. These demo's were originally released on tape, The Defeat of Satan from 1991 (under the name Crush Evil and Despair from 1993. I must say the songs from Despair are the best. They have the same sorrow sound like Martyrium, while The Defeat of Satan has a more Thrash/Death metal sound. This cd begins with the dark and mysterious sounding instrumental Preludium, bringing you into the right mood. Demonic Seduction continues that with deep grunts from Martyr and a very evil sounding laughing. The grunts are great, Martyr is one of my favourite grunters, very deep. The clean vocals don't sound too well on the first songs. Though on Jesus, Jesus, Ver Du Hja Meg the clean vocals sound very good. That song is a cover from a traditional Norwish funeral song, sounds very doomy and sorrow. Great song, with the guitar solo (by Bjørn Leren) it's a very emotional song. After this song begins the part from the The Defeat of Satan demo. More Technical Thrash/Death metal orientated, sounds good, but their strength is in the sorrowmetal. The song The Defeat of Satan begins mysterious and dark with synths, but the synth go faster and faster, an intro of 2 minutes. New Life is also technical, it surprised me 5 times at the first listen, each time I thought it ended the guitars went on. This song has a guitarsolo and even a drumsolo, and after all the solo's have been, Martyr comes back and repeats some verses. The cd ends with the dark instrumental Knus Ondskapen, finishing the cd. The artwork is nice, black pages (watch out for fingerprints) with pictures of graves.
