I felt like buying a CD the other day. So I went to the local christian bookstore and went through the CDs. Well, I don't know why I never bought a Tourniquet CD, but I thought it was the time for doing it. I saw Tourniquet live in 2000, so I knew some of their songs (and thanks to the internet).
But let's focus on the CD. This is the re-issue of their 1990 debut. I normally very rarely buy re-issues, as I prefer originals. But I heard the mix on the re-issue is way better. If there's one thing I like more than an original, it;s a good production. I can hear all instruments clearly and the vocals totally fit the sound. But not only the production is good, the music is also very good. I now understand why Tourniquet is one of the bigger names and what I've missed.
My favorite track would be Ark of Suffering. Brilliant song, expecially with the 'guitar-battle' in it. When you hear one guitarsolo from one side, and the other guitarsolo follows in the other side. After this the guitars go together. Very nice. The music has a lot of great things: great raw vocals, awesome guitarsolos and good variation. But it also has downsides: Guy Ritter somestimes does really high vocals, which I can accept, but Ready or Not is only this, which pretty much ruins the song for me. Thankfully he doesn't do it too much. Also, after Ark of Suffering, I can't remember any of the songs, strange enough. I don't know what it is, but it should be mentioned. I'll have to play the CD more.
After the actual CD there are some bonus-tracks, like stated in the general information. The live-songs are nice, the demos are to me less interesting. Three times Ark of Suffering one one CD is a bit much, even when it's a great song.
If you haven't heard Tourniquet yet, don't be like me and wait for years, just go check them out. Make sure to check out both new and old CDs, there is a big difference.
