-    As double bassist active in all fields and styles of jazz.

-    Wide experience in leading clinics and workshops at conservatories, universities and other music schools.

-    Associated with the jazz school of Madrid as professor for double bass, jazz history and jazz theory from 1988 - 1990.

-    From 1989 - 1993 professor of jazz history and discography at The Amsterdam College.

-    Currently working on thesis for Masters degree in musicology.

-    From 1994 to 1997 senior jazz producer and presenter for Dutch radio station Classic FM.

-    Since March 1996 principal jazz journalist for Holland’s biggest newspaper, De Telegraaf.

-    Author of “Structural And Creative Listening For Musicians”.

-    From 1993 lecturing on philosophy of music and related theoretical subjects at conservatories and universities in Europe and the US.

-    Between February 1997 and January 1998 presenter/producer for Jazz Radio and since October 1997 jazz producer/presenter of a live two-hour jazz show for Radio Netherlands International (RNI). Since March of 2000 producer/presenter of a weekly show on “Jazz Op Vier” for NPS Radio.

-    Currently producing a series of CD’s with historic Dutch jazz recordings from the RNI archives.

Since 1977, as one of the most sought after Dutch bassists, has worked around Europe and toured extensively to the United States, The Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. In 1997 tour of Eastern U.S. with a.o. the Frank Morgan Quartet.

At the 1997 North Sea Jazz Festival performed in concerts with a.o. Wynton Marsalis, Steve Turre and Clark Terry, in 1998 with Stanley Turrentine, John Scofield, Jim McNeely, James Moody, Frank Foster and Slide Hampton, in 1999 with Bennie Wallace and James Williams and in 2000 with Ron McCroby, Bunky Green, Jim McNeely and many others.

 In October of ’99 an album was recorded by the Hans Mantel Group featuring Jim McNeely. The group performed very succesfully at the North Sea Jazz Festival in July 2000.
