map-2 morocco/19th anniversary of the green march
rabat, nov.5 (map)- morocco is celebrating sunday the 19th
anniversary of the glorious green march which peacefully liberated
the moroccan southern provinces.
it was indeed 19 years ago that 350,000 moroccans took part in
the green march to peacefully liberate the provinces. the saharan
provinces were then deprived of the most basic facilities of
water, telecommunications, health, roads, ports and aiports.
since 1975, when morocco recovered the terrioories, the
difference is clear. this part of moroccan territory is now
enjoying a high level of develoi~nt. indeed, huge efforts were
exerted to enable the populations lead a decent life and enjoy all
modern facilities.
despite ill-intentioned maneuvres by the polisario separatists
to hamper the holding of a referendum to confirm the sahara as
moroccan territory, populations of the sahara continue to take
part actively in the countrztss political life: their participation
in the latest legislative and communal elections and in the
referendum on the constitution's revision produces another
evidence to their attachement to their moroccan identity. (map)sh/
