The Atlas Van Loon is commissioned by the wealthy citizen of Amsterdam Frederik Willem van Loon (1644-1708). The Atlas van Loon contains amongst others both town books of the Northern and Southern Netherlands from 1649 produced by Joan Blaeu, the most noted Dutch cartographer from the Golden Age.
The clickable image map below provides a cartographic index linking to the detailed town maps in both town books of the Northern (blue dots) and Southern (red dots) Netherlands available from the Memory of the Netherlands (het Geheugen van Nederland), a digital treasury, full of information about the Dutch past. [sometimes the city maps are not displayed immediately; if you use the page refresh button of your browser once or twice the maps will display]
