Piet Esser, Else Mauhs penning

Alwine Julie Else Mauhs (1885-1959),

tekst voorzijde: Else Mauhs.

Yosef Perelman, 1878-1959) De Engelse titel luidt veelal "Nju. An Everyday Tragedy".

2. Na Theo Mann-Bouwmeester droegen Else Mauhs (1934), Caro van Eyck (1959), Annet Nieuwenhuijzen (1980), Anne-Wil Blankers (1994) en Ariane Schluter (2010) het sieraad, in 2017 heeft de actrice Halina Reijn de Theo Mann-Bouwmeesterring ontvangen.

with a naked female, being the symbol of classical beauty, with her right arm in the style of Pablo Picasso, her head as an African mask, her left arm and leg melting as to be a Henry Moore sculpture, her right leg as a mobile of Alexander Calder, all meant as a mockery to modern sculptural art and the revers a clwon with a hole as his right eye.

with special thanks to Mrs. A.I. Niessen-Brinkgreve for added information

diameter ca. 105 mm., price: € 590,-

In the early 1950's Geurt Brinkgreve started with an important quest against the destruction of the old innercity of Amsterdam, he protested against the all daring, lightheaded politicians and real estate developpers. About him was said: He speaks with his hart, not with his common sense. His devotions to this subject has resulted into an annual Dutch award: the Geurt Brinkgreve Bokaal, it is an annual award of the Municipality of Amsterdam for the best initiative on area of redevelopment or renovation in the existing (residential) property stock. Furtermore, the award is explicit meant for a (residential) building that - after the development - has an important role on the vitality of the neighbourhood: a building that has been given back to the city and their inhabitants. The award is a tribute to Geurt Brinkgreve (1917-2005), who - against the ideas of that era - fifty years ago already plead for maintainance and recovery of the historical inner city of Amsterdam.

Gerrit van der Veen (26 November 1902, Amsterdam - 10 June 1944, Overveen) was a Dutch sculptor. He was a member of the Dutch underground, which resisted the German occupation of Amsterdam during World War II. He was one of the most active resistance fighters and was regularly involved with sabotage and burglaries during the occupation. On 10 February 1943 he starts a fire in the Regional Employment Board. On 27 March 1943 together with Arondéus, he does the same at the Population Register. They are all betrayed and hereafter, Van der Veen is permanently on the run. With three others, including Gerhard Badrian, he robs the Landsdrukkerij (the state printer) in The Hague. They are able to obtain approximately 10,000 blank identity cards. The last action from Van der Veen is an attempted escape of prisoners from the detention centre in Amsterdam. This plan fails. Van der Veen is shot twice in his back and becomes paralyzed. He manages to get to his hiding place, but is arrested on 12 May 1944. Other robbers are caught as well. They, along with Van der Veen are sentenced to death on 10 June 1944. On the same day, they are executed at the dunes near Overveen. In 1945 his remains were reburied at Erebegraafplaats Bloemendaal. On 9 March 2002 van der Veen was made Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem.

Hildo Krop - Hildebrand Lucien Krop (1884-1970) was a prolific Dutch sculptor and furniture designer. Krop is primarily known for his sculptures and contribution to public spaces in Amsterdam, but in addition he also worked for the ceramics producer ESKAF, the well-known glassfactory in Leerdam, and he also made diverse designs for furniture, forgings and book bindings for various publishing houses.
