What's a FAQ file? FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions. This page answers several of the questions frequently asked at once so don't look any further but check out this page first! I started this about 8 years ago (1997) when I didn't had an internet connection at all. All was done by using ASCII messages using Fidonet bulletin boards. (Yes, the good old days) Since then a lot has changed and only recently I started my own Golden Earring Record Research website on the internet.
As this site uses hyperlinks you can also easily link to other pages from this website to check out specific subjects or items. I will make the FAQ file available for download again. Here is the newest FAQ file. This is now revised, updated and extended! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT GOLDEN EARRING. FAQ content:

It all started in 1965 as "The Golden Earrings". Neighbours Rinus Gerritsen and George Kooymans had formed their band after playing together since 1961. "Please go" was released as their first single. It became a major hit and a lot more would follow. Their first lp is called "Just Earrings" (1965) Later on the band name changed a few times from "The Golden Earring" to "Golden Earring" in 1970.
A=
Yes, the bandline-up hasn't changed from 1978 until now. The band is performing acoustic live as well as electric, but nowadays mainly in the Netherlands.

As Millbrook USA was released (February 2003) there will another studio cd soon. June 2004 recordings were made for Naked III, a new acoustic live album which was also released on DVD. Whenever there will be new recordings for a new studio album, I will mention this here. A new album is being recorded in several studio sessions and release is planned for 2007 according to George Kooymans in a German 2006 interview. A new live dvd\cd was released in November 2006 (Live in Ahoy 2006). In 2007 two songs were performed live (My Lips Are Sealed (electric) and Where Have You Been (acoustic) and these songs will probably appear on the new album which is scheduled for release in 2012. Another song title which was mentioned in a radio show interview is "Flowers In The Mud". This song is now performed live as well with Identical (2011) The new album is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2012. No more info known yet.

Yes there are. George and Barry both released an vinyl album in the early Seventies. George's is called Jojo, Barry's is called Only parrots frogs and angels. They were both rereleased in Germany in a double album version. They have been released on official compact disc version. Both albums are still vinyl collectors items and prices up to 150 guilders were being paid for Mint\Mint albums. But these prices have now dropped considerably due to the cd releases. George's Jojo album was also released in the Superstarshine serie with Vol. 23 number. This album has a different sleeve.

Both these albums are available on cd but hard to find and becoming collectors items too. Barry Hay released another solo cd and - dvd recorded with The Metropole Orchestra called The Big Band Theory. Rinus made an album with singer Michel van Dijk and their album is called Gerritsen en Van Dijk (Dutch album). In the States this album was released under the title "Garrison and Van Dyke. The albums are only available on vinyl, they were never released on cd. In Holland the "Fonos" organisation now made it possible to order a reprint of the album on cd with original artwork.

Q? How about Mad love, Long Blond animal and Hearing Earring?
A=
Well, the first two are just the (changed) American names for original Dutch albums (Contraband and Prisoner of the night). Mad love is interesting because it contains the track I need love which was never released in Holland on any other original vinyl album. Hearing Earring is an 1973 UK compilation album. Tracks from Together and Seven tears were taken to make this compilation album for Australia and the UK. So you'll miss some songs if you don't have the original Dutch albums mentioned. I Need Love was released on the The Devil Made Me Do It 4cd box release (2000).

Golden Earring recorded over 50 singles. They often contain bonustracks, edit versions or a remake. All singles together add up to a pretty long list. The newest single is "Angel" (Acoustic live, release May 2005). For more info I recommend the Golden Earring Record Research Report. (SOLD OUT!) All kinds of info can be found in it, including info about different versions and releases of many countries. The early singles from the sixties are rare and hard to find in Mint\Mint conditions. Songtitles are Please Go, Lonely Everyday, That Day, If You Leave Me, Things go better with Coca Cola, Daddy Buy Me A Girl, Don't run too far, In My House, Sound of the screaming day, Together we live, together we love, I've just lost somebody, Dong-dong-diki-digi-dong, Just a little bit of peace in my heart, Where Will I Be, Another 45 Miles. On this site a single list is to be seen with label info for many different country releases.
A=

Yes, there is a book called Haags(ch)e Bluf, written in Dutch by Pieter Franssen and handles about Golden Earring and his history or should I say hit-story? Another book (but a reference guide more than a book!) to read is called the Golden Earring Record Research Report which has a lot of information about Golden Earring and it's discography. May 1998 the fourth print was released, totally updated but sold out now. It contains list with all kinds of mediums Golden Earring did releases on: cd's, lp's, singles, cassettes, video, laserdisc, Polish tonpostkarte, Russian flexidiscs, related records and lots and lots more! If you are interested you can contact me at: casper.roos@ziggo.nl (I'm the author) For foreign fans a 12 page English appendix is available explaining several things in the book.
Foreign fans can read a 20 page story in the USA magazine Goldmine, written by John Scarpelli. It's the december'95 issue and hard to get but it's really good!
A new book released in 2004 is called: "Golden Earring - Rock die niet roest" by Maarten Steenmeijer. Check out this website for more information about it. Another book called The story of Golden Earring was published on December 03, 2005. This is a 384 page luxoury edition with hard cover and lots of photo's and interviews.

Yes, there are several vhs releases. The oldest is The Clips which is not available in shops anymore. Then there are The Naked Truth, Making Face It, Naked II and Last Blast Of The Century. These tapes are all on European PAL system. There is also an American release "Live from the Twilight zone" on NTSC system, but of course hard to get as these were released many years ago. All of the mentioned titles are available on DVD by now except for Making Face It. However, this release is available on a video cd in the fan circuit.

There are several interesting websites about Golden Earring. They have their own official website now at http://www.golden-earring.nl. One of the most attractive sites is the Golden Earring Museum which I especially recommend! Another interesting site is Dan Lynch Golden Earring Radio
Dan started this website and later on organised the birth of the Golden Earring Internet Newsgroup where information is exchanged worldwide. If you have the Real Audio software you can play his Golden Earring Radio which is weekly changed.
A=
Yes, there is. It's called alt.music.golden-earring. Ask for it at your provider if it is not available yet.A=
If you visit the Marcel Lodders lyrics site, you can find lyrics to Twilight Zone and many other other Golden Earring songs. There's a lot of other useful info too. There's also a songbook you can download and read it with Adobe Acrobat.

Well, for foreigners only a few releases are available abroad. You can try by looking for cdshops on the Internet, but they have not many items available i'm told. Cdsingles and vinyl are hard to get anymore in the record stores. You must go to second hand record stores or get them from collectors who swap or sell items. Most cd's are still available in most cd-shops. If you want to have information what I can deliver on cd, vinyl, cassette, original videotape or dvd please ask for a free list without obligations:

The dvd from Cesar called "Alle gekheid met een stokje" doesn't work on all region free dvd-players. Try setting Multi instead of Pal and it should work...
A=
First make sure your DVD-player is capable of showing PAL (European system) DVD's. This is a different system than NTSC, which is common in the Unites States and several other countries. The disc standard is Dutch language no subtitles. So subtitles have to be switched on in the subtitles menu. If this still doens't work try playing the DVD on your computer's DVD player and it will play most certainly! This trick can work for other dvd's as well of course.

This is not to answer very easy. However this has to do with the copyright for these recordings as far as I know. As the Making Face It video tape was issued by Sony they might consider it. But again, this is all speculative from my point of view.... The Naked II was a cd on the CNR label and was finally released on DVD in 2004 (Universal label)A=
Check out the official Golden Earring website - it used to be in the timetravel section - and find "Devil Made Us.....cd box set picture" click on it, and you will find the English translation available here for printing. It's still on the new website, so check it out.

This song was originaly released on the US version of the Dutch Contraband lp: Mad Love. This song was a LP only track for years. But it's now available on cd with the The Devil Made Us Do It-box. CD nr 4, 7th track.

Tickets can be bought at venues themselves or through Ticketservice. The management doesn't sell tickets nor do they have ticket info. Also check the unofficial tourdates listing on this website for additional website info. Or check the official site (Tourguide) be aware of the fact some people tend to buy extra tickets and sell them at double rate or more. Even some so called ticket offices offer them on the internet at too high rates....

This is not very easy to answer. However it was rumoured amongst fans after the 2008 Ahoy concert there were plans in an early stage to do a small tour in Summer 2009 in the USA maybe as there were some promotors and interested parties at the concert. This was very premature as only 2 UK shows have been booked and performed in March 2009 at Ipswich and London! In 2010 Golden Earring did perform less due to new album recordings, but 2 Belgium shows and a German show have been booked already. 2011 was marked for a period of absence on the stages due to a voice problem of George Kooymans. This FAQ file is under construction.
