Christof May studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands.
He graduated in 1998 with a Masters Degree in Jazz Saxophone and a Bachelors Degree in Classical Clarinet. A versatile musician, his main focus is on jazz and related kinds of improvised music.
He has done numerous concerts and recordings with musicians and ensembles such as Susanne Abbuehl, David Liebman, the Jazzmeteors, Nimbus (collective), Wolfert Brederode, Erik Ineke, Ruben van Rhoon, Gully Gudmundsson, Caroline de Rooij, Trygve Seim, Jakob Roved Quartett, and Metropole Orkest.
He does regular appearences with these groups at international jazzfestivals and clubs, such as North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz-no-Jazz (Zurich), Banlieues Bleues (Paris), Vicenza (Italy), Cully (Switzerland), Molde (Norway), Montreal Festival, and Parc Floral Festival (Paris).
Christof has also composed and improvised music for different kinds of stage performances. With guitarist Florian Zenker and DJ Cut Nice, he created the music for the project "de Kunst van het Breken", performed by the Dutch Dance Company "Djazzex" & the "010 bboys" a.o. at the Lowlands Festival 2001.
Together with Eurythmist Magali Müller-Peddinghaus, he composed the performance ROT, commissioned by german painter Brigitte Wiegmann.
The cooperation resulted in a life performance and video exposition in the Museum am Ostwall, Dortmund, in September 2003.
Trained in classical as well as in improvised music, Christof has performed contemporary and classical works together with, among others, the dutch eurythmy ensemble "Zilt", the new music ensemble "m.use", and played first performances of compositions by composers such as John de Simone, Daniel Landau, Piotr Klimek, and Panaiotis Leftheris.
